Accompanied on piano by Sheri Breeden, Tie Singing Word performs a variety of scripture selections, some of which utilize a screen in the background onto which the words of the songs are projected, allowing the audience to sing along. “Everyone eigoys it more when they can join in,” says Bobbi. “So do we!”
The vision that the group has for their performances is not simply to entertain, but “to show (the audience) God. We don’t want them to just listen to us and say ‘You sang really well’, ” explained Jan Palmer, another member. “We want them be blessed.”
As part of the evening, members of the group will share their beliefs with the audience, not in prepared ways, but spontaneously.
The Singing Word began with individuals who simply ei\joyed getting together to sing. Soon, though, they began to see the potential for expanding their goals. “Once we realized that we had a ministry there was a lot more to (our singing) than we thought.”
One of the group’s primary goals is to unite the area churches and to work with them. Since the joint performance by several local gospel groups in the Evening of Gospel Music sponsored by RAAC in April, they have joined with the Promised Land Baptist Church for activities, and hope to encourage other churches to work together toward their shared goals.
