It is perhaps aouoiy sigrancant because the contest for the nomination for the office is still open. Some other candidate could conceivably emerge who might be more to the coalition’s liking, but it is clear they don’t expect this to happen. And in many cases what the coalition expects or does not expect to happen is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Indeed, one school of thought holds that a main purpose of the event was to provide a none-tosubtle early show of force of such persuasive magnitude that other potential candidates would quietly drop any ideas about challenging Terry for the nomination.
