I he annual Youth Day for New Salem Baptist Church was observed on Sunday, with the youth of the church assuming various duties for the morning worship. Miss Mandy Jenkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Jenkins, who is president of the Youth Group, led the service. The guest speaker was Mrs. Virginia Kincer, youth worker from Culpeper Baptist Church, and music was directed by Mrs. Cathy Beale, organist. This was a most enjoyable occasion for all in attendance.
Mrs. Charlie A. Wood, Mrs. Gail Filyo and her son Stephen Filyo Jr. of Rockville, Md., were in Central City, Pa., this week to attend funeral services for Mrs. Susan Filyo, who died Sunday.
Mrs. Betty Arstino and Mrs. Helen Brians were hostesses for a stork shower in honor of Mrs. Mary Jane Weakley at the Nethers Mill Pentecostal Church on Sunday afternoon. Among the guests attending were Mrs. Faye Clinedinst, Mrs. Alson Jenkins, Mrs. Dorothy Miller and son Durelle, Patricia and Cathy Sisk, Mrs. Sylvia Sisk, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Bowles and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Brians and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Weakley and many other friends.
Church news includes revival services to be held at Griffinsburg Baptist Church, Wednesday through Saturday, May 10, at 7:30 each evening with Evangelist George Milgrim as speaker. Rev. Bob Rooper, pastor, invites the public to attend.
Mrs. Ertha Hawkins who spent the winter with her son-in-law and daughter Rev. and Mrs. Cecil Carder in King of Prussia, Pa., returned to her home here last week accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Carder and her son Amos Hawkins of East Stroudsburg, Pa. Mrs. Carder remained for several days with her mother before returning to her home.
Saturday Amos Hawkins and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hawkins dined at Brookside near Luray and en route home visited Mr. and Mrs. Randy Sims and daughter Amanda, who upon seeing her grandparents the Joe Hawkins just invited herself as an overnight guest.
Mrs. C. D. Marshall and her daughter Mrs. John Wilmont of Linden were in Richmond on Saturday to visit Mr. Marshall at the McGuire Hospital. They report that Mr. Marshall does show some improvement.
