No frost
damage
The chilly nights of the past week have not caused any damage to the fruit trees* in the county, according to Sandra Richardson, Rappahannock County Extension Agent.
Although near record low temperatures were recorded at several locations in the area last week, the scattered frost reported in some sections of the county did not affect the blossoming orchards, Mrs. Richardson said.
Bus evacuation
drill scheduled
An emergency exercise to familiarize students with bus evacuation procedures has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 14. The drill, which is mandated by Virginia Department of Education guidelines, will be held on the grounds of both the elementary and the high school.
Classes will be dismissed at both schools at 3 p.m. that day, and following the drill, which should last 30 to 45 minutes, all students will ride home on their regular bus routes. Ms. Betty Settles, acting principal at the elementary school, will be in charge of the exercise there. John Toth, assistant principal at Rappahannock High School, will direct the drill there.
In case of rain the exercise will be rescheduled for the following day, Thursday. Mav 15.
