Ten schools participated in the District Nine Solo and Ensemble Festival held April 19 in Leesburg,Loudoun County.
Rappahannock band members in grades 6 through 12 were made aware of the festival by band director Kathy Hewitt. Interested band students were allowed to participate.
According to Miss Hewitt, the festival was conducted in an informal manner. The participants went in a room with one judge and their accompanist. They performed their selection and the judge rated them on a scale of one to five, one being superior. Students were not in direct competition with each other. Ratings were only for the student’s benefit.
