The other group went to the VMI Room where they heard about the VMI cadets. The students examined artifacts that had been used in the New Market battle. A replica of the VMI flag that was used in the battle, uniforms and letters from the cadets were displayed.

The students then saw two films, one about Stonewall Jackson and another on the New Market battle.

The gift shop was popular with the students as was the “hands-on experience” room. There they handled replicas and original war time items, including a 12-pound cannon ball, axes and kitchen utensils.

Their trip concluded with a walk on the battlefield for a closer look at the cannons and a walk around the farm house where the battle was waged.
