Both the Sheriffs department and the Social Services Department acknowledge that domestic violence is a significant problem in Rappahannock County.
“Sometimes we’ll find out that a woman is being abused through a child abuse case,” said social worker Laurie Turner. “And often it’s a woman who has always accepted violence as a way of life — her mother was beaten, she was beaten as a child, and her husband beats her. Sometimes we’re the first people to point out that this just isn’t right.”
