Personnel of the Virginia State Defense Force (VSDF) based in Winchester and Warrenton will be sworn in during the unit’s first organizational, get-acquainted session on Sunday, May 11, at 1 p.m. at the Winchester Armory.
Brig. Gen. Herbert L. Turner of Staunton^ Commander of the 3rd Brigade (of which Rappahannock County is a part) will administer the oath.
Lt. Col. Boyd G. Headley, Jr., of Winchester, who commands the brigade’s 3rd Battalion, said that the meeting is “for those who have already made application to the Virginia State Defense Force from the Winchester, Rappahannock, and Warrenton areas, and for those who would like to serve.”
Headley said that there is no age limit, and there are no physical requirements to join the all-volunteer organization. “Only a willingness to serve is needed,” he said.
