“Participation makes the ones who are doing so well work harder. The ones who I thought wouldn’t want to go have spent a lot of time on it and have improved tremendously just by putting the extra time into it,” concluded Miss Hewitt.

First time participant Justin Ferrence has played the alto saxophone for two years. He said, “I learned a lot about the festival by being in it this year. It will help me next year when I do it again. I was so glad I didn’t squeak and I played all the right notes!”

Sixth grader Keith Jenkins, second year band student, played the drums at the festival. “The judge taught me about how to play the drums better,” he said.
