While aggressively promoting tourism, he devotes even more energy to preserving the environment that first attracts guests to Caledonia Farm. Conservation easments preserve his farm and home in perpetuity.
The local bed and breakfast offers two rooms and one suite. It is well known as a romantic getaway to travelers and meeting planners for its view of the Skyline Drive atop the Shenandoah National Park, working fireplaces, individual heat control, air-conditioning, patio and porches.
Breakfasts at hourly intervals feature choice of eggs Benedict, smoked salmon, custom omelets and many unannounced extra. Bicycles, lawn games and an evening hay ride are among the many amenities.
Caledonia Farm’s manor house and companion summer kitchen were built in 1812, constitute a Virginia Historic Landmark and are on the National Register of Historic Places. The nationally recognized Rappahannock Progressive Dinners usually begin at the Flint Hill site. Several reservations are still available for the next “Moveable Feast” on Sunday, April 26.
