“Congress” is the problem, they will believe that they should be euchred out of their means to be represented.
Voters have to force themselves to separate what they do and do not like that Congress does or does not do, from the institution, and their own responsibility for it, or we will lose our representative government.
An examination of the recent history of the presidency and its work will not show an interest there in a faithfulness to representative government. Rather, it will show a belief in the White House that the president is above the law and is a law unto himself.
On the other hand, a history of the House and the Senate will show, at least in part, a willingness to tolerate Executive tyranny in the hope that the fiction of representative government may be sustained, in spite of everything, expecting that legal government can from time to time be recovered and achieved.
If Congress is successfully trashed, then representative government in the U.S. will fail. Ask yourself, “In whose interest is Congress being bashed?”
