Arriving on the scene just after 8 p.m., firemen observed heavy smoke pouring from the first floor. A crew went into the house through a side door and attacked the flames, then opened walls to find any hidden fire. Crews from Washington, Chester Gap and Amissville remained on the scene for two hours.

The name of the home’s occupant could not be confirmed at press time.
