Locally and nationally bellydancers are struggling to perfect and perform their art, to get it noticed by the general public, and to free it from the false image presented by Hollywood, television, Mid-East nightclubs here and abroad, and even such things as condom marketing (Sultans). And it is just such struggling artists who advance and enhance beauty in all its many forms that represent the “cutting edge” of art, not Frohnmayers peeping out of bedpans.
Mr. Frohnmayer and his supporters may paranoidly believe that “enemies” are attacking the world of art, but the truth is that many programs are being cut back, including defense. And if they attacked him for his promotion of ugliness, he has only himself to blame.
