This afternoon, with the usual pleasure I take in reading the Rappahannock News on its arrival in Chevy Chase, I came upon the article on Page 2 announcing the scheduled “Moveable Feast” sponsored by the local B&Bs.
It makes me feel as though I am still an active participant in the doings of the Bed and Breakfast Guild of Rappahanncok County when I read about the wonderful progress this group has made since its inception back in 1985, when I was a founding member and treasurer.
Having owned and operated Meadowwood Bed & Breakfast in Slate Mills with my late husband, Eugene Robson, we were both active members in the community of innkeepers, and fully enjoyed sharing our home and our lives with the many guests we were privileged to meet and greet.
When Eugene died in September 1985, Meadowwood continued to operate with the wonderful assistance of many members of the county finding employment with us. As all the B&Bs flourished, so too did the guild, and our plans in the guild grew more adventurous monthly.
The first all-participating, activity was scheduled for March 14, 1987, and we called it a “Progressive Dinner,” in which Meadowwood, the Conyers House, Caledonia Farm and Heritage House shared in the preparation and presentation of delightful Pleasures of the Palate.
It was the first Moveable Feast in the county. ... I remember the date well since I broke my ankle on the day before, Friday the 13th, and my son, Arthur Neufeld, flew into Virginia from New Jersey to assist in serving 22 guests for dinner. All
