Results of
survey eyed
To the Editor:
On Feb. 11 results of the PRIDE survey were presented to the Rappahannock School Board. Concerned citizens of the community find the results surprising as the substance abuse rate in the county appears to be increasing at an alarming rate.
Often, the reaction of individuals upon reading the results of the survey has been one of disbelief, or skepticism. This point of view has unfortunately been reinforced by comments of some Rappahannock students. When questioned about the survey by parents or interested individuals, a few students have responded that “no one at my school took it seriously,” while other students have even hinted that the survey results were falsified.
Unfortunately, it does not seem likely that the students attending our schools would have been able to falsify the data that this survey has reported on the use of alcohol and other drugs.
The PRIDE survey was specifically designed to take into account that a student might counterfeit answers in an attempt to distort survey results. PRIDE officials responded to inquiries about this
