To the Editor:
First and foremost, allow me to thank you for your generous and extensive coverage of our area’s artistic and cultural events and concerns. As a community member, participant, and audience member, I appreciate the support and information the Rappahannock News provides.
After having read the article in last week’s issue about the upcoming evening (April 12) of Ki Theatre’s “Exchange Series,” however, I feel I need to clarify a few things. 1 do not have a great deal of experience with interviews (obvious, perhaps) but I feel that a certain presumptuousness seemed present in some of my statements which was never in my heart or mind and were not intended, therefore, to pass my lips.
“You know they’re going to love you no matter what”—yikes! What performer would dare to make such an assumption, or would even want to? Our audiences deserve more credit than that. I spoke of the nurturing environment of Rappahannock County audiences, not of a lack of discernment or critical acuity. I may have said it, but I surely don’t remember meaning what came across as a somewhat arrogant generalization.
Support of the arts and the character of audiences in this community are remarkable; so is the caliber of most of the offerings. Although, fireSee
