The Virginia Department of Health, Division of Emergency Medical Services, announced this week that the Soho Center in Madison County will receive five Injury Prevention Mini-Grants.
These grants will be used by the Soho Center to buy and give away fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, safety gates, and safety latches to anyone taking care of children in their homes. All family day care providers in Rappahannock County are eligible.
According to Jeanna Beker, the Soho Center’s director, “We are obviously excited about this award. With so many children in the region in family day care, it means they’ll be safer than ever.”
According to the National Safety Council, 26 million children are injured each year at home; two million require medical attention. Antonia
