The modem American lifestyle — too much to eat; too much fat, cholesterol and sugar in it. Not enough exercise; too much stress. We get too much of some things, not enough of others. Everything seems to cause cancer and nothing seems to be safe to eat, breath or do.
Despite a plethora of things to be afraid of, aware of or concerned about, everyone has one thing working in their favor when it comes to health — a desire to live a healthy, happy life.
Some people are fanatic about fitness and health; others are lazy. Most people fall somewhere in between and need a little help making healthy choices about the way they live.
Alive and Kicking, a week of health and fitness activities coordinated by Fauquier Hospital, is designed to help people weave healthy habits into the fabric of their day-to-day lives. It is a communitywide effort by a volunteer task force consisting of many local groups and agencies.
Now in its fourth year, the program offers a number of free activities to promote health and wellness. It is scheduled for Sept. 26-Oct. 3. .
The Alive and Kicking Health Fair, a popular community event last year, will be back this year to open the week. There will be thrity information and educational booths staffed by health professionals, with demonstrations every hour. Events have been planned for adults and children alike.
