One area of the hospital which benefits both outpatients and inpatients is the Radiology Department. It has undergone extensive renovation and refurbishing in the past few months with a new mammography area and offices scheduled for occupancy in early September. Four extra radiology, rooms have been created to correct efficiency and space problems of the past.
The Radiology Department, which takes care of about 33,000 patient contacts annually, handles a number of diagnostic tests, including X-ray, mammography, nuclear medicine, CT scanning, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging.
“As part of the improvements in our Radiology Department we added some new equipment to enhance our diagnostic capabilities and better meet our patients’ needs,” said Baker.
A new CT scanner was installed last Januray and a SPECT scanner became operational in June. The SPECT camera represents the latest advances in nuclear medicine. Other equipment in the Radiology Department also has been updated.
“We can do any radiologic test any larger hospital can do,” said Baker. “Our equipment is state-of-the-art, and our radiology technicians are first class,” he added.
Fauquer Hospital’s Radiology Department and staff carry a number of certifications. It can conduct highly specialized tests such as the thallium stress test, a test utilizing the new SPECT scanner which takes a three-dimensional picture of the heart.
