Thirty-seven percent work off the farm 200 or more days a year, and 22 percent are in between. He said the survey also showed twothirds own the land they use. Twenty-seven percent own some of the land and lease other land, and six percent lease all the land they use. He suggested the farmers consider leasing more land as a way to cut land costs.
Reggie Reynolds, of the Virginia Cattlemen’s Association, noted that the cattle being sold at auctions are being shipped 700 miles farther west than in years past. He noted that these buyers are only interested in buying an entire truck load of cattle.
