This past spring, spurred by world events and a personal curiosity, I chose to apply for a summer exchange program to Moscow, Russia. During the five weeks I spent there, I visited all the famous landmarks of Moscow, and also met and talked (in English) first-hand with the people.

When I began the application process, I learned that the final money deadline was only weeks away. My parents could not afford the fee, but with the help of many kind individuals within and outside of Rappahannock County I was able to travel to Moscow in July.

The trip really opened my eyes, and was an invaluable education for me. I would like to express my thanks to all those who helped make my trip possible.

There were so many people who contributed and helped me that it is impossible to name them all here. I would especially like to thank Mrs. Vinney Carney for all the time and effort which she gave to assist me in my fund raising. I also want to thank Mr. Arthur Arundel for his generous contribution.

My very first impression of Russia unfortunately was not a good one. We arrived at the airport and had no problem with customs or anything else, but apparently a car driven by a foreigner, not a Russian, had hit our bus.

Of course none of the Americans in my group, including me, knew
