In the study, Roald Shem, D.D.S. and his colleagues gave six adults a piece of sugar-free gum to which two different formulas of calcium and phosphate (natural components of tooth mineral found in saliva which help strengthen teeth) had been added. After only 16 minutes of chewing, both formulas of the experimental gum significantly boosted saliva production.
