The Rappahannock News Sept. 3 article on the Library financial picture by Sharon Kilpatrick was full of interesting facts. However, I would like to make a correction in an inference I am sure Sharon did not mean and certainly I did not intend.
She “quoted” me: “We always felt it was important to keep monies under our control rather than put them in government. All governments take from those who have to take care of those who don’t.” That last sentence is an asinine statement for anyone to make, I must say!
I feel I didn’t say that; certainly I don’t believe that government takes from those who have to help those who don’t. I am aghast to think I conveyed that.
What I tried to say was that in the past, the Library Board had wisely invested its hard-gleaned funds, with the most expert financial advice available, in order to gain the most income for the library, and to thereby become less and less of a burden on the county government, rather than to put our funds into the prescribed Treasury bond program of the county government.
