Mr. Coon and Dr. Krebser asked Rep. Wolf whether he supports a constitutional amendment to ban abortions, but Rep. Wolf did not answer. He said he had never made the issue a “litmus test,” and said it is “probably the most difficult issue in politics.”
Peter Kramer asked Rep. Wolf to tell more about how he would solve the problem of the deficit.
Rep. Wolf said it would require bipartisan action. He said, “The Ross Perot movement has helped sensitize people.” He said he supported a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution and blamed the Democratic Congress for the amendment not passing.
He said that if Democratic Party ^presidential candidate Bill Clinton wins, “Dr. Krebser would become a goverrftnent employee. The American Trial Lawyers control the Democratic Party and have driven up the cost of health insurance,” he added.
He noted that the Democrats have controlled the House of Representatives for 38 years, “longer than Castro has controlled Cuba.”
William Young noted that President Bush has vetoed 31 bills and said he was “questioning the extent that Congress is in power.”
Rep. Wolf said he supported the vetoes and “the Democratic leadership is for more spending than the administration."
