Tiffany Hall, Activities Director for Special Needs Residents at Sunrise Retirement Home in Warrenton read about the Swimming Seniors class and felt that ti could meet the needs of some of the residents. Three residents now participate in the class. According to Tiffany Hall,- one resident name Lucy, who was not sleeping well at night, now sleeps like a log.
Muscle strength is also very important as a person ages. There is a tendency to lose muscle mass as part of the aging process. Studies now show that it is never too late to build muscle. Falls cause 85 percent of injuries for those over the age of 45. Strong muscles can assist in keeping the joints in alignment and preventing falls. Pikes peak, a local fitness club, in Warrenton, has 27 members over the age of 60 who come regularly to exercise on the Nautilus equipment.
Aging successfully does not come naturally. It take effort and energy. Keeping active, thinking young, talking about tomorrow enthusiastically and meeting people are all essential parts of successful aging.
