The 1988 study conducted by the consulting firm identified several problems with the old lobby and admitting ara which have been corrected in the design of thenew lobby. The study recommended that emergency and non-emergency patient admissions be separated, a problem already corrected by the opening of the new Emergency Department last March. Space limitations, poor visibility and inadequate lighting Were other concerns.
“The new lobby has been configured for maximum convenience and comfort,” said Baker. “People will really notice the difference. Both patients and visitors will find the surroundings a big improvement.”
Extra admitting space will afford patients greater privacy and comfort, according to Baker. The new lobby will also provide the added benefit of additional administrative space close to the public waiting area.
