He said he would also support “vouchers or credits” to help more people buy health insurance. Rep. Wolf added, “We can’t deal with the health care issue without dealing with malpractice... We have the finest health care in the world,” he said. “The problem is affordability..., the answer isn’t to turn health care over to the federal government.”
Mr. Coon asked about the issue of global warming and said that in Rio the president “wasn’t too eager to spend money.”
Rep. Wolf said President Bush should get more credit for the Clean Air Act. He added, “I am a strong environmentalist.” He suggested people in this area form an advisory committee for the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. He said he would also support such a committee for the Manassas Battlefield Park that would tie in with Civil War sites in Winchester.
He blamed the House Ways and Means Committee for refusing to consider bills to preserve open space or increease the exemption for children on income taxes.
He suggested the voters elect a Republican President and Congress and “give us the opportunity to see if this group can deliver.”
Rep. Wolf faces McLean Democrat Ray Vickery in November.
