RLEP is
tremendous
resource
To the Editor:
I am most excited about the upcoming annual meeting of RLEP (Rappahannock League of Environmental Protection) on Sept. 24. After five months of listening, and participating as a board member, I’ve come to realize the tremendous resource we have in this organization. The breadth of skills, knowledge and experience in dealing not only with environmental issues, but issues directly related to Rappahannock, is indeed impressive.
An organizations’ effectiveness is directly proportional to clarity of purpose and sincerity of those involved. It’s little wonder that our perceptions these days stray toward the cynical as we watch well-intentioned groups fall prey to hidden agendas or empty, rhetoric - I have not found this to be true with RLEP.
My hope is that on Sept. 24 residents of this county, both full and part time, come to Washington fire hall with one agenda - the preservation of this small piece of the planet - Rappahannock.
We no longer need to participate in the illusion that we have lost control, that we are powerless to "the forces that be.”
To me, the forces are the dreams we share of swimming in clean rivers, driving down country roads and feeling the sheer delight of the beauty and magic of these mountains. So, we can make it happen - we have future generations counting onus!
