Team was treated to a variety of programs, including a magic show, storytelling, a program on space and songs. During August, team members saw a puppet show7 presented by the members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 547 and a marionette show put on by Bob Brown’s Puppets and sponsored by F&M Bank of Winchester, Flint Hill office.
Each week, drawings were held for prizes donated by several businesses and community groups. The organizations that donated more than $300 worth of prizes were the Appetite Repair Shop, Cabin Fever Books, Chipmunk Hollow Interiors, the Church Mouse, The Country Cafe, Country Heritage, Country Manor Gift Shop, Down to Earth, Earthkeepers, Faith Mountain, Hackley’s Store, Mountainside Market, RAAC, Rare Finds, Rush River, the Sperryville Emporium, the Theatre at Washington, the Trading Post, and Trinity Episcopal Church.
Several of the participants excelled in their efforts to “Reach for It. Read!” this summer. Mindy Cairns read a record number of books with 270. Lauren Kaye read 132, and Kaitlin Moore read 117.
In the older division, Kate May read 45 books totaling 7,634 pages. Sara Klatko read 4,659 pages equalling 26 books. Robyn Kaye read 26 books totaling 4,491 pages.
