Park panel
will meet
at library

The Shenandoah National Park Advisory Panel will meet Thursday, April 1, at 6 p.m. in the Rappahannock County Library.
The panel includes representatives from each of the counties that borders the Park who meet with Park Superintendent Bill Wade and his staff. The forum, which meets four times a year, was created to allow dialogue among the park and its neighbors.
Several items are on the agenda for the upcoming meeting, according to Sandy Rives, information officer for the Park.
The Park’s budget for the next fiscal year and where the park stands today in its budget cycle will be reviewed. Supt. Wade told the group at its January meeting in Elkton that the current budget woes of the Park (and the National Park Service as a whole) will not get any better next year, and may well get worse.
Part of the problem, Supt. Wade said then, was that the national parks do not retain the entrance fees paid by visitors. That money is returned to the Treasury of the Unites States.
