If you do not meet the legal definition of blindness, you still may qualify for disability benefits if your vision problems coupled with other health problems prevent you from doing substantial work.
Following are some of the special rules designed to help blind people qualify for or get the most out of their disability benefits,
• If you are blind, ydu may need fewer work credits anonorecpm. work to qualify for SociaT'Security disability benefits as do sighted persons. For example, at age 32 a sighted person would need credit for five years of work out of the ten years ending when he/she became disabled; a blind person needs credit for only 2 1/2 years of work and they could have been earned at any time.
