A bird study course will be given starting on Tuesday April 13. It will last six weeks and consist of three one-hour' classroom sessions alternating with three, three-hour field trips.
The classes will be held in the Trinity Episcopal Church from 9 aim. to 10 a.m. on April 13 and 27, and May 11. Field trips will visit three different Rappahannck habitats from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on April 20, May 4, and May 18.
Appropriate springtime bird behaviors such as territory spacing, vocalizations, pair-bonding, and migration will be covered. Each class session will prepare the students for the following week’s field trip. The course is designed to help with the field indentification of Rappahanncok County brids, with emphasis on techniques for seeing birds well.
Betsy Trent Thomas, an ornithologist, will teach the course. She is a recent Research Associate of the Smithsonian Institution, and a holder of a master bander’s permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. ’ The bird course is open to both men and women who have an interBE
