The post time for the Airlie races is 2:30 p.m. The Warrenton Hunt hunter pace is set for April 3 at 9 a.m. at the Warrenton Hunt kennels.
At most race meets, racegoers would not get terribly excited about a plain, old flat race in and of itself. However, Warrenton’s 1 3/4-mile turf event will attract the eyes racing’s intelligentsia worldwide as the 1992 Eclipse Award winner, Lonesome Glory, will utilize the race as a prep for the rich, $50,000 Temple Gwathmey hurdle stakes at Middleburg April 18.
The open timber race also drew a field rich in talent. Gus’s Boy, the ’91 National Steeplechase Association timber champ, ’89 NS A champ Call Louis, ’89 Maryland Hunt Cup winner Uncle Merlin and Snow Maker, third in the ’92 Hunt Cup, are all entered.
Locally owned entrants add Fauquier flavor to the contest. Arthur Arundel’s North Atlantic and Kinross Farm’s David’s Passing will race for their Virginia connections.
