Maurice Herndon of Sperryville said “you can not blanket Congress. You can not condemn all of Congress. I do not think it is fair.”
Mr. Heddleston said, “If theife are short term limits, then the staffs will be running the country because they will remain. I do not agree with term limits for congressmen.”
Mr. Konick responded, “I was opposed to this last year but I haVg changed my mind.
“I do not think Frank Wolf is a good man because he said he would not run for more than five terms and now he is in his sixth term in Congress.”
When the question finally was i called, the resolution carried 17-4 on a show of hands.
The other three resolutions read by Mr. Marocchi carried unanimously. The resolution opposing abortion generated lively debate that generally broke into two camps. Mr. Heddleston and Tom VonFange led the insistence that abortion is wrong and should be opposed no matter what. Bob Darby of Wood. ville urged those at the meeting not to pass any such resolution. “Lets not put our candidate on the spot on such an issue so early in the caiqT paign.”
Mr. Konick said, “it will be the death knell of the party to make peo; pie run on that platform_It is not the only issue and you are losing elections.”
As finally approved, the resolution opposes the Freedom of Choice Act now before Congress.
All of the resolutions will be forwarded to the upcoming 31st Digtrict convention in Warrenton od May 13 and to the State Convention in June. 1
