What’s decorated, dyed, sequined, exchanged, bejeweled, hunted, hidden and eaten? Eggs! And at Easter, eggs symbolize long traditions of spring festivals, religious customs and family traditions.
Egg Safety
If your home is the site of annual egg decorating, an Easter egg hunt, or an egg-rolling contest, keep in mind the tips below. Eggs are handled at lot more than usual at Easter, increasing the opportunity for the spread of bacteria. Before you cook, cool, dye or hide the eggs, wash your hands throughly.
Although Mother Nature provides eggs with their own packaging, eggs are perishable. Buy eggs from refirgerated cases. Get eggs home quickly and discard any that might have cracked enroute. Refrigerate eggs in their carton immediately and keep them refrigerated on an inside refrigerator shelf until you use them. The temperature remains lower and more constant, and there is less chance of breakage than on door shelves.
Raw (or lightly cooked) eggs may contain Salmonella, a bacteria that grows rapidly at room temperature
