Know the Details of
Property and Plants
When you visit your nursery, garden center, or landscape firm know the following: measurements of property, where the sun is during the day, what plants are now on the property, how the property drains, what the soil is like, and any other pertinent information.
Use photographs of the property along with your sketches to illustrate your ideas. Be prepared to discuss plant varieties and species. Doing you homework ahead of time pays off when you can approach a garden center already familiar with terms like hardy, pH, light requirements, and mature height.
