A national poll conducted by The Gallup Organization reveals that farmers in Virginia and other southern states see water quality as the top farm-related environmental problem and “safer” pesticides as part of the solution.
According to the results of the 1993 Sandoz National Agricultural Poll, three out of five farmers say they are more concerned about farm-related environmental problems today than five years ago.
“It's clear that farmers everywhere share the public’s concern for the environment, ” said Dale Miller, CEO of Sandoz Agro, the agricultural compnay that commissioned the study. “This is especially true in southern states like Virginia, where the three major concerns of farmers are water quality, soil contamination and soil erosion.”
