General Assembly that a settlement was in the •best interests of the taxpayers since the chances of losing the case were great.
Gov. Allen, who pushed the reluctant General Assembly last year to settle, sa d that he doubted a backlash would occur from the pensioners who settled.
“When the settle, you settle in good faith," he said. “It was voluntary. No one was forced to settle.”
The governor said the state will find the funds to pay the settlement and expenditures will have to be reduced elsewhere.
