Mary Russell
Mrs. Mary Jeffries Russell, 98, of Orlean died on Thursday, Sept. 14 at her residence.
She was in Orlean on March 31, 1897, the daughter of the late Edward Newton and Emma Oliver Jeffries.
She owned and operated Russell’s Store, a general store in Orlean for over 80 years. The store was operated by her father and she had worked there from age 16.
She was a member of Orlean United Methodist Church.
At her death, she was the oldest member of the Marshall Chapter #101, Order of the Eastern Star in Warrenton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Garland Russell and three sons, John G. Russell Jr., J.' Edward Russell and William T. RusseU.
Survivors include four sons, Emory C. Russell of Flint Hill, Wallace B. Russell of Luray, Horace H. Russell of Warrenton and Harry R. Russell of Vienna; three daughters, Ethel R. Hume, Juanita J. Russell and Emily R. Colvin, all of Orlean; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept. 17 at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton with the Rev. Barbara Minter officiating.
Interment was in Orlean Cemetery.
