JULY 1995

DAINGERFIELD PUBLIC NOTIFICATION FECAL COLIFORME/E.

COLI PRESENCE

We have been advised by State Health Officials that we failed to meet the bactenologica! water quality standard as set forth in the Commonwealth of Virginia Waterworks Regulations for the month of July, 1995. This PMCL exceedance occurred because three (3) routine samples and three (3) repeat samples collected from the distribution system indicated the presence of total conform bacteria with one of the repeat samples indicating the presence of fecal conform bacteria The presence of fecal conform bacteria in one or more routine samples followed by conform or fecal coiiform positive repeat samples is an acute violation of the bacteriological water quality standard

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets drinking water standards and has determined that the presence of fecal coiiform or E coli is a serious health concern Fecal ooliform or E. coli are generally not harmful
