“Good job guys. Okay stand by ... we’re out in 10...9...8...Nice work. See everybody in Saratoga.”
1 gratefully tore off my headset and wiped my sunburned forehead with hands still full of cue cards and microphones. I said “Good job” to our host Dave Johnson, and he flickered a smile in my direction.
He turned back to face the race track crowd and began the arduous task of signing autographs in the 95 degree July heat.
Most of the 20,000 plus fans had come to Monmouth Park in New Jersey to see the 1995 renewal of the Haskell Invitational, one of the most prestigious Grade 1 events in the country.
