Thomas Jefferson was a firm believer in the “right of self-government.” He reminds us that “whenever the people are well informed, they can be trusted with their own government.”
On Oct. 6, Friday Night at the Library will present a program that is particularly timely. In November we will be actively participating in the process of self-government as we go to the polls to select local and state leaders who will serve, we trust, the best interests of our community.
This year has provided unusual challenges for those responsible for governing Rappahannock County. The forces of nature have added to local problems as we experienced severe flooding followed by a rare period of drought. How does County Government respond to such emergencies? How well are we being served or otherwise affected by local, state and federal agencies? How ‘interdependent” have we become?
