The marriage of Ms. Mary Nanette Butler to Mr. Howard Marshall Roberts took place on June 17 at the Warrenton United Methodist Church, Church Street in Warrenton.
The former Ms. Butler is the daughter of Mrs. Dorothy C. Butler of Sperryville and the late Howard H. Butler.
Mr. Roberts is the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts of Culpeper and the late Eugene P Roberts, Sr.
The double ring, candlelight ceremony was held at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Wendell R. Grant of Marshall and the Rev. Calvin E. Lawrence, Sr. of Dale City as officiants.
The bride was given in marriage by her mother and her aunt and uncle/godparents, Mr. and Mrs. James R. Butler of Gordonsville.
From the designer, Carol Hai, the Moonlight collection, the bride wore a full-length, long sleeve, sheathe style, formal gown of ivory Italian silk. The sweetheart neckline and bodice featured handsewn lace covered with bead and pearls. The back featured a deep-V that flowed into a cathedral length detachable train with lace and pearls at the hemline.
The bride also wore her mother’s headpiece which she carefully restored herself to fingertip length. The bride also restored her mother’s bible which was decorated with cascading fresh roses and gardenias. The headpieces and bible were used by Mrs. Butler in her wedding in 1953.
Additionally, the bride wore a large, wrist corsage of baby’s breath and roses.
The maid of honor was Ms. Doretha H. Butler, sister of the bride, Williamsburg. She worn a fushchia two-piece, full-length suit with an offthe-shoulder look and double breasted rhinestone buttons. The half-length sleeves were gathered at the elbow. The shoes and pill box hat with matching netting complemented the outfit.
The bridesmaids were Mrs. Eunice B. Lewis of Washington and Ms. Gail B. Clark of Sperryville, cousins of the bridge, Mrs. Valerie R. Martin of Bowling Green and Ms. Katrina Roberts of Lignum, nieces of the groom and Ms. Elizabeth Oliver of Manassas, friend of the bride.
