In addition to the bonus purse awaiting series contenders, each race in the group ofTers a substantial purse to the field. At Fairfax, the Bowman Bowl, set at three miles over that right-handed course is worth $10,000.
I'he 3 1/4-mile International Gold Cup has increased its purse to $50,000, making the stake the richest timber race in the world.
The four-mile Virginia Hunt Cup also carries stakes status with its $35,000 purse.
In addition to the Southern States Championship, the National Steeplechase Association also crowns a NSA Timber Horse of the year based on points earned in races this past spring and in any or all of the 21 timber races (five of which are stakes races) on the autumn schedule.
