The board voted to accept the street lights chosen for the town. They are hoping to have a color corrected bulb for the lights when installed but don’t know if Potomac Edison will supply that kind of bulb. Mr. Barton said that the Town Council had already voted on the lights and that he didn’t see grounds for the ARB to reject them.
After much discussion, the board decided that applications filed two weeks before an ARB meeting would definitely be heard at that meeting, but anything filed after would not be guaranteed to be heard at the meeting. The members would vote at the meeting whether they would hear the application that night or not, depending on whether they feel they have had time enough to review the application, and/or visit the property if they need to in order to see what is in the application.
Mr. Barton said he would like to initiate a program whereby the ARB awards a plaque to people who have done an exceptional job with their house. “It shows someone has gone to a lot of trouble to put it back the way it was,” he said. In Charleston, he said, it is a “big deal” when people have a plaque on their house, and Alexandria is contemplating doing it too. Mr. Eldred suggested they take the idea to the Town Council.
Mr. Eldred said he noticed the Middle St. Gallery had received a new paint job recently, and no application was made to the ARB. Mr. Barton said he will speak with the owner of the building, Sharon Labovitz.
