Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend. Don’t forget to “Spring Ahead” one hour before going to bed Saturday night, particularly if you’re planning to attend church on Sunday.

Baldwins set to

appear April 3

Danny and Bonnie Sue Baldwin will be tried for bear poaching and the sale of illegally taken wildlife on Monday, April 3 at 10 a.m. in Charlottesville. Bear poaching is considered a felony and the maximum penalty is five years incarceration and a fine of $250,000. The Baldwins were indicted on March 11,1999 due to the ongoing Operation SOUP (Special Operation to Uncover Poaching) conducted by the National Park Service, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Cleanup slated

The Smokehouse Winery is sponsoring a road cleanup on Saturday, April 1 from 9 a.m. until noon along Scenic Byway 231 as it runs south from Route 522 towards F.T. Valley Grocery and a little beyond.

The winery will provide refreshments and munchies for all those participating afterward at the winery as a thank you for coming out and helping to keep Rappahannock and one of the state’s more picturesque byways beautiful. Please meet at F.T. Valley Grocery on Saturday morning around 8:30. For questions or information call the winery at 987-3194.

Fodderstack 10-K

2000 set April 15

On Saturday, April 15 the 22nd annual Fodderstack 10-K Race will be run from Flint Hill to Washington. There are 11 categories again this year.

Bus service begins from Washington to Flint Hill at approximately 3:45 a.m. Registration in Flint Hill at the volunteer fire department starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 9:30 in time for the race’s start at 10. Pre-registration (postmarked by April 8) is $17, and $20 the day of the race.
