In response to the Planning Commission’s village planning process, an unsolicited “draft” commercial development plan for Amissville has been forwarded by Robert Lindquist of Amissville. Mr. Lindquist and other “longtime citizens” of the Amissville area spent about a year preparing this plan hp provide their perspective to the planning process.
Mr. Lindquist said that he feels that Amissville has long been neglected by the county, and that the viewpoint of many of the older county families has been co-opted by newcomers to the county and by environmental organizations such as RLEP, PEC, and RCCA.
He said that “It seems that it’s unfair that county resources go to the western part of Rappahannock,” and he suggested that the plan provides a “way to make Amissville a better place to live” by providing Amissvillearea residents with amenities and shops that are not now available. It also would provide income to those who have no resources other than their land. Mr. Lindquist gave the example of Helen Dixon, whose land is key to the proposed commercial development. “She can’t earn from her property,” he said, “what are they supposed to do?”
