Fifty Rappahannock school children will be guests in Front Royal Saturday to take part in the parade and see the premiere showing of Bing Crosby’s new movie, “Riding High.” The youngsters will be furnished a free lunch and will be on hand to see the dedication of the stadium. Carroll Menefee Jr., who re-enlisted in the Army Air Force, left Monday for Lockland Air Base at San Antonio, Texas. During World War II he served in the Air Force for two years, stationed in Mississippi and Florida. The Rappahannock Garden Club met Wednesday afternoon at the Lee Highway Hotel in Sperryville with Mrs. J.G. Revercomb, Mrs. S.E. Hening and Mrs. John Revercomb as joint hostesses. A Mrs. Grimes of the Waynesboro Nursery showed slides of flowers, shrubs and gardens near Waynesboro. WA Whitmer of Manassas was the purchaser of the farm of the late Buck Cook near Crest Hill, which sold at public auction March 25. The farm consisted of 148 acres of land with a six-room residence and a four-room tenant house. All of the personal property, livestock and farm equipment sold at top prices. An unusually large crowd attended the sale.

Jim Bankston has assumed the duties of Game Warden for Rappahannock County, just in time for the opening of trout season. His appointment was effective Monday, March 31. He is a native of Arlington, but traveled extensively with his family when his father was in the U.S. Air Force, spending seven years in a rural area in Texas. He is a graduate of George Mason University and attended George Washington University. He served four years with the U.S. Navy and is married to the former Joanne Greffenstette.
