“Alcohol on the breath or in the body is considered possession of alcohol,” he explained. “If we detect an odor or behavior that leads us to believe that minors have been drinking, we give them an alco-sensor test.”
This is the same field test administered by police to suspected drunk drivers, according to Sherertz.
“The test performed on the high school students detected alcohol in their systems, which gave us probable cause to make the arrest and bring them before the court,” said Sherertz.
According to Sherertz, there have been seven instances of students caught with alcohol or drugs on school property so far this school year.
Because of this, school officials have been growing more concerned about the abuse of drugs and alcohol by students.
