Four days after citizens, school officials and law enforcement officers met to discuss substance abuse in the public schools at a forum sponsored by the “First Thursday Education Support Group,” two tenth grade students at Rappahannock County High School were caught with alcohol on their breath.
The investigation started on the afternoon of March 24, when RCHS Assistant Principal Mike Tupper noticed the smell of alcohol on the students and brought the matter to the attention of School Resource Officer Capt. Jeffrey Brown of the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office.
Capt. Brown’s investigation — which included observing the students’ behavior and administering an alco-sensor (breath) test — indicated that the students had been drinking. The two juveniles were then placed under arrest.
